Intercollegiate Taiwanese American Student Association (ITASA)
 |
The Intercollegiate Taiwanese American Student Association is a non-profit organization providing events and resources that explore and celebrate Taiwanese American identity in order to inspire, empower, and activate its community. ITASA is most notable for its regional conferences which take place in the West Coast, East Coast, and Midwest each year. Each school goes through a rigorous bidding process of having the privilege to host their region's conference at their campus. West Coast schools which have hosted the ITASA Conference in the past have included USC, Stanford, and UCLA. We are proud to announce that this year's 2010 West Coast Conference will be held here at the University of California, San Diego in La Jolla. |
UC San Diego
| The University of California, San Diego, with an undergraduate student population of over 22,000 and an Asian American student population of over 9,500, has long been recognized as one of the largest public universities in the nation with a rich diversity of students. Given its beautiful sprawling campus and close proximity to the beaches of La Jolla, UC San Diego is definitely an ideal location to host the ITASA 2010 West Coast Conference. TASA at UCSD has also consistently shown strong attendances at the past three ITASA West Coast Conferences (UCLA, Stanford, and USC). Now it's our turn, and we are honored and proud to be hosting ITASA at UCSD for the very first time! |

ITASA 2010 West Coast Conference: Sailing Beyond the Horizon

|
The 2010 theme, "Sailing Beyond the Horizon" is meant to empower and encourage our Taiwanese American college peers to embrace their identities through the learning and understanding of Taiwanese history and culture. We hope to demonstrate that though most of us were born in the United States, Taiwan still affects much of who we are today, and it is only through taking pride in the Taiwanese heritage that our generation can progress towards creating our own unique narrative.
While we believe in the importance of looking back on our history, our conference emphasizes looking forward into the future. Through the examples of our speakers, we'll show that many Taiwanese Americans have pursued their passions and made great achievements within their respective career fields, all while remaining active within the Taiwanese American network. |
| "Sailing Beyond the Horizon" and sailing on the ocean also means that in the end, we'll always have a home to come back to. This notion is representative of the Taiwanese American community that our team hopes to build through our conference activities as one of comfort, familiarity, and friends. So while we chart our own individual paths, weather inevitable storms, or create waves of incredible change, we hope people can find solace in knowing that we as Taiwanese Americans share the same heritage from which we can draw inspiration, as well as the knowledge that we are never alone. |
